LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

NEW PROTOCOLS FOR BORROWING AND RETURNING BOOKS

(for The NEW NORMAL)

Despite all the limitations, our libraries and librarians will provide library services to our clientele in this COVID-19 situation, which is also termed as the New Normal. Physical access to our library collection is possible following the set procedures enumerated below:

  1. Visit the https://dbmanda.one-bosco.org/ and look for the Library under the Student Services.
  2. At the Library Homepage, you can see the OPAC. Once you click the OPAC, you will be redirected to the homepage of KOHA (library search engine).

Procedures in Borrowing and Returning of Books for the New Normal:

  1. Search the materials through KOHA. List down or get the necessary information of the book such as Title of the Book, Author and Call Number.
  2. Go to the Library website and click the “Ask A LIbrarian”. Fill-up the form. In the field of “What is your topic or question?*”, please provide the necessary information of the book you are borrowing.
  3. You will normally receive a reply from a member of the library within one working day together with a query/search ticket and time/date of the pick-up.The service is available Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  4. The library will provide a pick-up point in the DBTC turnstile and a drop box for returns.
  5. Students may borrow a maximum of three books at a time. For General References and Filipiniana Materials, you can borrow for one week. And for Fiction/Novel books, you can borrow for two weeks.
  6. A due date will be stamped at the due date slip found at the back of the book. An email will be sent to remind you of your due. In case of request for extension of use, the borrower may fill up the form at the ASK A LIBRARIAN online service for us to be informed.
  7. Penalties and/or replacement will be imposed if the book is lost or tear-out pages are found in the library books when returned.
  8. Returned books will be quarantined and sanitized within 48 to 72 hours upon return. The staff may check in the material/s after this period.
  9. Online book/eBook recommendation / suggestions systems are encouraged. Visit our suggest a purchase online service for this purpose.

ALL MEMBERS OF THE LIBRARY STAFF ARE EMPOWERED TO ENFORCE LIBRARY RULES AND TO ENSURE A REASONABLE CODE OF CONDUCT AMONG USERS WITHIN THE LIBRARY.

Introduction

A valid school ID is your permit to use the library. Present it at the Control Desk upon entrance or when requested to.


General Rules

  1. Conduct prejudicial to the proper use of the library like smoking, drinking, and sleeping, are strictly prohibited.
  2. SILENCE must be maintained in the reading room at all times.
  3. Users of the library should be appropriately dressed. Hats and caps should be removed upon entrance. Cell phones must be in silent mode, other gadgets like laptop, tablets, etc. are subject for checking and are the sole responsibility of the student when inside the library premises. The Library staff will not be responsible for any loss of your personal belongings.
  4. Library users must not remove any material from the library at any time unless borrowed or properly issued to them.
  5. Only library users are entitled to use the bag rack located at the entrance. Bags are not allowed in the reading room and open shelves. Library users must take care of their personal belongings.
  6. Foods and drinks are not allowed inside the library.
  7. Unruly behaviour will not be tolerated. Users will be asked to leave the library
    premises on the second warning.

BORROWING PRIVILEGES

Students may borrow a maximum of three books from the library at any time provided he has a valid school ID.

Fiction/Novel Books - 2 weeks
General Collection - 1 week
Filipiñiana Books - 1 week
Reference Materials - ROOM USE ONLY
Magazines & Newspapers - ROOM USE ONLY

FINES

Fines are imposed for breach of any of the library rules.

One week and Two weeks books:

P 5.00/day - first 10 days after date due
P10.00/day - thereafter inclusive of Sundays and Holidays.

LOST BOOKS

Lost books must be reported and replaced or paid for within 30 days. Payment shall be equivalent to the book’s current market value together with the accrued fine. If the book is out of print, cost of photocopying plus binding cost shall be charged in lieu of current market value. Accrued fines shall also be charged.

Mutilation of library materials is an offense with a fine of not less than P 300.00 nor more than P 500.00 without prejudice to the imposition, in appropriate cases, of the additional penalty in a form of disciplinary action.


AUDIO - VISUAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

Reservation / Request for A-V materials

  1. All reservations and schedules for the use of Audio-Visual materials and viewing room are on a first come first served basis. A reservation form is available from the A-V librarian’s office. Fill up and sign the reservation form.
  2. Reservations of A-V materials and equipment and use of the viewing room should be made three days before the intended use.
  3. Reservations done over the phone will not be entertained. The A-V Librarian encourages the clientele to visit the A-V Center to fill up the reservation form.
  4. Requests for videotapes, CD, DVD, VCD and other instructional materials not in the collection that are for purchase may be requested two weeks before the intended use. The Requester will be informed of the availability of materials a week before the scheduled date.

Audio-Visual General Policies

  1. The Audio-Visual Center and its collections are for the use of the Students, Faculty, Employees and the Salesian community of Don Bosco, Mandaluyong City.
  2. A valid school ID is a requirement when borrowing A-V materials / equipment. The librarian keeps the ID until the A-V- materials / equipment have been returned.
  3. A-V materials / equipment are for classroom and campus use only. It should be returned to the A-V Center after use to avoid inconveniences to the next client.
  4. Borrowing of A-V materials / equipment should be done at the A-V Center.
  5. Students are not allowed to schedule / reserve a slot for the use of the viewing room on behalf of the teacher or in the absence of the faculty.
  6. Those whose signature appears on the reservation form shall be held responsible for any damages or loss of A-V materials / equipment.
  7. Duplication of VHS,VCD /DVD, CD-ROM’s and cassette tapes are strictly prohibited.
  8. Only movies on VCD/DVD format may be borrowed by faculty for overnight use only and should be returned the following day at 12:00 noon. Failure to return incurs a penalty.
  9. A-V equipment borrowed for the day should be returned to the A-V Center on or before 5 O’clock in the afternoon.
  10. Lending or switching other students' ID for borrowing is not allowed.
  11. Lending of A-V materials / equipment to another person who is not a signatory in the reservation form is strictly prohibited.
  12. Any loss or damage in A-V materials / equipment while on loan is the responsibility of the borrower therefore it should be replaced or repaired.
  13. Any A-V materials / equipment’s borrowed overnight, which are not returned on time shall be charged a fine of Php 50.00/ day.

Procedures in borrowing and returning of A-V Materials / equipment

Borrowing

  1. A-V materials / equipment may be reserved/ borrowed/ returned at the A-V Center.
  2. The requester presents his / her ID to the A-V librarian and shall sign-in in the borrowers form indicating the accession number of the materials / equipments
  3. The staff gets the needed materials / equipment and checks the item in front of the requester.
  4. The A-V librarian verifies the information provided and releases the A-V materials / equipment. The A-V librarian keeps the ID and records the borrowed materials daily.

Returning

  1. All A-V materials / equipment are checked against the borrower’s form and tested in front of the borrower when returned.
  2. The A-V librarian acknowledges by signing the remarks column of the borrower’s form to complete the transaction if there is no problem encountered.
  3. The A-V librarian releases the borrower’s ID.

Thesis and Feasibility Studies Collection

The Don Miguel Solaroli Library collects and maintains all the thesis and feasibility studies conducted by the undergraduate students of the College Department and Faculty of Don Bosco Technical College for their Post-Graduate studies. These materials are currently located on the 2nd floor of the Library near the Librarian’s Office and are available in print and digital format.

Thesis and Feasibility studies are strictly FOR ROOM USE ONLY.

Rules on using the collection

  1. Only students and faculty with a valid school ID are allowed to use the Collection.
  2. These collections are only allowed to be used in the Thesis reading area. Assistance from the librarian may be asked to locate a title.
  3. Researchers from other institutions are only allowed to access the collection if they have a valid school ID and a signed referral letter to show coming from their Dean or Head Librarian.
  4. Borrowers are required to sign in their names in a designated “Borrower’s Statistics Form” every time they will use the collection.
  5. Photocopying and image capturing using cellphone cameras of any part of the Thesis / Feasibility studies are strictly prohibited. Violators will be dealt with corresponding behavioral demerits as stipulated in the College Student’s Handbook.
