“The Don Miguel Solaroli Library positions itself as a world-class technological research library.” As such, it is vital that its staff, services, collections, and facilities are of national and global significance that supports intellectual exploration and discovery in research and scholarship particularly in the field of technology.



Mission

The mission of The Don Miguel Solaroli Library, in support of the mission of the Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong as an empowered Educative-Pastoral Community, is to provide:

•seamless services to educate the youth to become benchmarks in the field of technology in collaboration with the faculty to ensure that students acquire the skills and intellectual abilities necessary to function independently and successfully in an information-driven society;

• organized and accessible collections of high quality research and instructional materials way beyond its physical walls to meet the evolving needs of customers;

• information literacy program to empower customers to equip themselves with the skills they need to become effective users of information in different ways for personal and social life, for learning, for creativity and enjoyment.

By contributing to the development of users’ information gathering and critical thinking skills, the DMSL strives to prepare its customers for lifelong learning.

Environment

Major technological, economic and social trends significantly influence the services and resources of the library as we face the future. These include:

• changing role of the library in a technological environment and need to update our image;

• impact of technological changes on the creation, storage, and access to information;

• increase emphasis on lifelong learning as people live and work together;

• increase amount of information in digital format, including multimedia, requiring increased digital storage space;

• a demand for faster networks to accommodate more users and new multimedia applications;

• concerns with licensing and user authentication due to increased reliance on access to remote electronic resources;

• maintaining standards of best practice in system migration, conversion;

• preservation, accessibility, maintenance and user support;

• the need to integrate a diverse array of local and remote information resources;

• Planning and budgeting for ongoing renewal and expansion of hardware, software and network infrastructure;

• inflation undermines the library budget;

• publisher prices and the number of products continue to increase;

• foreign exchange rates fluctuate;

• electronic resources may cost more than their print counterparts because of incremental fees associated with electronic formats;

• with the trend to increased reliance to electronic resources, there is a shift from copyright to contract law governing use of information;

• request from non-DBTC for free access to the library’s resources.

Fulfilling this mission requires the pursuit of the following goals:

GOAL 1 : SERVICE

To deliver seamless services to educate the youth to become benchmarks in the field of technology in collaboration with the faculty to ensure that students acquire the skills and intellectual abilities necessary to function independently and successfully in an information-driven society;

To provide organized and accessible collections of high quality research and instructional materials way beyond its physical walls to meet the evolving needs of customers;

GOAL 3 : INFORMATION LITERACY

To promote the Information Literacy program to empower customers to equip themselves with the skills they need to become effective users of information in different ways for personal and social life, for learning, for creativity and enjoyment.
