Francisco Siblings Make Waves in the Swimming Circuit

MARIKINA, Philippines—Two Bosconian siblings swam their way into the record books after their triumphs at the 2nd Congresswoman Maan and 4th MPSC Meet in the Marikina Sports Center on the 31st of August. 

13-year-old Vanz Francisco of 8-Rua and 17-year-old Bruce Francisco of 12-Rinaldi showcased that it truly runs in the blood when it comes to Bosconian prowess. The brothers leaped into the pool, treaded into uncharted waters, reached for the wall, and climbed onto the podium for a memorable day of competition.

The Franciscos started their medal bids when the older Francisco won a bronze medal in the 50-meter breaststroke, recording an incredible time of 38.22. The younger Francisco followed up with a silver medal in the 50-meter butterfly, shaving down his time from the heats to a quick 37.56 seconds. Thirst for more medals was not quenched as they set out to conquer more of the thrilling competitions set ahead, showcasing what true sportsmanship and competitiveness are about.

Caps and goggles on, Bruce pulled forward with a silver in the longest course of the competition, the 200-meter freestyle. He recorded a time of 2:30.83 while being one of the youngest competitors in his division, showing his never-ending perseverance. Vanz carried out the family tradition of medalling as he fulfilled his duties in the 50-meter freestyle. Adding to their collection, he snatched the silver medal in a speedy 32.38 seconds.

Vanz concluded their campaign when he clinched an unprecedented gold medal in the 50-meter breaststroke in a swift time of 40.10 seconds, rising from the heats as an underdog to become the champion.

Outside of the medal places, Bruce also competed in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly, whilst Vanz also competed in the 50 m backstroke and 100 m freestyle. Overall, Vanz and Bruce, respectively, ranked second and third in their divisions, adding their piece of history to Bosconian sport.
