Thrilling Showdowns and Innovations at the 2023 National Robotics Competition
The 2023 National Robotics Competition was in full swing as contestants from multiple schools around the Philippines gathered at the Gesu Adoloscente Gym in the Institution on December 2, 2023, from 7 am to 4 pm. The event featured two main competitions: the Robot Sumo Wrestling Match and the Line Tracing, providing a platform for participants to showcase their ingenuity and talents in robotics.
The Robot Sumo Wrestling Match included two categories—Remote-Controlled (RC) and automated—with weight classes of 1 Kilo and 1.5 Kilos. The matches were a spectacular dance of machines and carnage, with some ending in the blink of an eye, while others saw both machines fighting to the best of their abilities. One contestant even had their robot's wheels snap off during the intense competition. The winners of the Sumo Wrestling competition were the competitors from Cavite Science Integrated High School.
On the other end, the Line Tracing competition challenged contestants to build an automated robot capable of navigating a series of lines. The fastest and most accurate robots emerged victorious. Contestants employed various strategies, from slow and steady routes to blazing-fast approaches. It was intriguing to witness participants tweaking, modifying, and improving their robots to achieve slight increases in accuracy, speed, reliability, and intelligence.
The Line Tracing event featured two categories: basic and advanced. The basic category focused on accuracy and speed, while the advanced category added pathfinding to make the competition even more interesting. The winners of the basic Line Tracing event were Crecencia Drucila Lopez Senior HS, while the champions of the Advanced event were Saint Jude Catholic School.
Overall, the event was a resounding success for the hosting school, Don Bosco Technical College. Contestants immersed themselves in the spirit of collaboration and competition, making the 2023 National Robotics Competition a thrilling showcase of innovation and talent.
