Serving the Lord with Holy Joy: DBTC Medical-Dental Mission
"The cross is a symbol. Love God, love your neighbors…" These resonant words from Fr. Glenn B. Protacio, SDB, reverberated through Roderick Flores Hall during the orientation of the Medical and Dental Mission at Don Bosco Technical College on April 27, 2024, setting the tone for a day filled with service and outreach.
DBTC Juan (One) Bosco MD is dedicated to providing healthcare to nearby communities while fostering a sense of familial spirit and pastoral charity. This initiative is part of the Office for Pastoral Affairs' community development program, led by Ms. Saerah Monica Furiscal. Volunteers from Don Bosco EPC, in collaboration with the Mandaluyong Health Office, 701st Signal Battalion, Matanghali Eagles Club, and Generika, assisted beneficiaries from St. Dominic Savio Parish, residents of Brgy. Daang Bakal, the Pinardi Salesian Community, and Careworx.
The Medical and Dental Mission featured various stations catering to the needs of the beneficiaries. Registration, vital checks, and the holding area were located in Roderick Flores Hall. Subsequently, recipients were guided to the medical station for general check-ups and appropriate referrals from volunteer doctors. The dental station provided tooth extraction services, while the eye station offered free eyeglasses. The pharmacy station dispensed donated medicines provided by the generous parents and students of DBTC.
Beneficiaries, primarily comprising senior citizens and a few newcomers, expressed their delight at the warm welcome and excellent service received during this productive program. City Health Officer Dr. Arnold De Castro Abalos, a beloved alumnus, graced the event to oversee proceedings and was warmly welcomed by Fr. Protacio, EPC volunteers, and Signal Battalion members. Although the event concluded as scheduled, it left a lasting impact, uniting everyone in a shared sense of purpose.
As we continue to uphold Don Bosco's mission, our commitment to addressing the needs of the Church and community, particularly focusing on the well-being of the young and the poor, has proven successful.
