Guidance Week 2023: Bosconian C.A.R.E.S.

The Office for Guidance and Counseling Services orchestrated the Guidance Week Celebration with the theme “BOSCONIAN C.A.R.E.S. (Career, Advocacy, Relationship, Empowerment Technology & Stewardship)” held from December 4-7, 2023. The primary goal was to empower Bosconians with the knowledge, skills, and experiences essential for identifying career options, exploring alternatives, and succeeding in society.

The week was filled with activities advocating for a healthy mind and body, encouraging Bosconians to combat maladaptive lifestyles and negative situations emerging post-pandemic.

Launch of Guidance Week & Kiddie Career Day

On December 4, 2023, Ms. Jocelyn R. David, Head of Guidance and Counseling, inaugurated engaging events such as the Cyber Wellness (Responsible Use of Technology) Video Competition, Care For Our Common Home (Laudato Si’) Vlog Making Contest, Care For Our Common Home (Laudato Si’) Art Making Contest, and Career Kiddie Day.

For Career Kiddie Day, Ms. David extended a special invitation to Bosconians from Kindergarten to Grade 3, urging them to grace the occasion by donning costumes representing their envisioned dream careers. The lively event at Gesu Adolescente Gymnasium left a lasting impression on our BES SHS students and faculty. Their fantastic performance during the morning assembly added an extra spark to the program, showcasing the enthusiasm and talent of our budding Bosconians.

Seminar on DOLE Labor Education/JobsFit

Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, Senior Labor and Employment Officer at DOLE - National Capital Region, along with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) - Mandaluyong Staff, prepared our 3rd-5th year College and TVET students for the world of work. Bosconians attended a seminar covering the demands of the job market, skills and competencies enhancement, from building a robust job profile to job interview do's and don'ts, and finally, landing the job.

College Information Fair

The College Information Fair aimed to inform Grade 11 & 12 students about different colleges available for choosing. Students got a glimpse of what these schools offer toward greater education and higher knowledge in preparation for their chosen careers. Participating Colleges and Universities included De La Salle- College of St. Benilde, Enderun Colleges, Far Eastern University, iAcademy, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Thames International, University of Asia and the Pacific, University of the East Ramon Magsaysay, University of Sto. Tomas, and WCC Aeronautical and Technological College. The fair was held on December 5, 2023, Tuesday, in the Gesu Adolescente Gymnasium.

Chastity Forum

On Wednesday, December 6, from 10:00 am-12:00 nn, Grades 7 & 8 Bosconians joined the Chastity Forum in the Savio Auditorium. This forum, the first among those offered by the LivePure Movement, delved into human sexuality before addressing the issues of today’s youth. Facilitated by Mr. Julius Ceazar R. Arevalo of the LivePure Movement, the forum aimed to help individuals understand their uniqueness as men and women, gaining deeper knowledge and wisdom on how their sexuality works perfectly with God’s plan.

Men’s and Women’s Forum

At 2:00-4:00 pm on the same day, Grades 9 to 12, TVET, and First Year College Bosconians participated in the Men’s and Women’s Forum. These separate sessions for boys and girls aimed to guide the youth on how to be men and women after God’s own heart in a world bombarded with ideas on who they should aspire to be. Facilitated by Mr. Julius Ceazar R. Arevalo in the Gesu Adolescente Gymnasium and Ms. Trisha Joy R. Mendoza in Flores Hall respectively, the concurrent forums allowed students to discuss issues unique to being a man and a woman, helping them realize their sense of being a gift to each other.

Salesian Vocation Orientation

On Thursday, December 7, from 12:30–2:30 pm, the VokTok Team facilitated the Salesian Vocation Orientation for Grades 11, 12, TVET, and First Year College Bosconians in the Savio Auditorium. The session aimed to provide an initial understanding and appreciation of the religious-missionary life in general and orient students to the religious-missionary life of the Salesians. Fr. Jayson B. David, SDB, and Ms. Karen C. Calma facilitated the session on stage, joined by the rest of the VokTok Team, who live-streamed the session: Ms. Ma. Celine Ria C. Acosta, Mr. Alruz Sebastian C. Alanis, Mr. Nhel Ceejay Bernarte, and Atty. Clarissa Idris Banaybanay.

The session was in the form of a talk show that featured Bro. Anthony Rodriguez, SDB, DBTC Brother Assistant, and Fr. Glenn Joseph Protacio, SDB, VP for Pastoral Affairs and Student Services. Some games engaged the audiences online and in the auditorium. The audience also had a chance to ask questions.
