College Bosconians Join Philippine Media and Information Literacy Summit 2023

The BS IT/CS/CpE Bosconians participated in the recent Philippine Media and Information Literacy Summit in 2023. The event took place on October 28-29, 2023, at the GyudFood Food Hub, located on the premises of the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City. The Bosconians, along with the College Student Council, came together to get a grip on the importance of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in today's society.

As participants in the summit, the Bosconians had the opportunity to engage in various activities and experiences. They explored a wide range of MIL-related topics, including digital safety, press freedom, and civic engagement, by visiting more than 20 interactive booths and exhibits. These interactive sessions significantly enriched their understanding of these crucial subjects.

The Bosconians were privileged to attend insightful talks delivered by media experts and professionals. These presentations offered valuable perspectives and knowledge related to media and information literacy. The summit also provided opportunities for the Bosconians to connect with and sign up for various MIL advocacy groups. Notable participating organizations included "Out of The Box," "Break the Fake Movement," and the "National Union of Journalists of the Philippines." This networking opportunity allowed the Bosconians to connect with like-minded individuals and actively engage in advocacy efforts.

To enhance the summit's engagement, the Bosconians had the chance to participate in various games and a raffle, with exciting prizes up for grabs. This incentivized their active participation and involvement. The Bosconians displayed boundless excitement and enthusiasm in embracing the challenges presented at the summit. They actively listened to the insightful speakers, demonstrating their dedication to the principles of MIL and its role in promoting freedom of information and critical thinking.

Furthermore, the summit featured contributions from various organizations and partners, including Meta Philippines, Internews Philippines, and the UNESCO office in Jakarta. This collaborative effort underscored the summit's significance in promoting media and information literacy on both a national and regional scale, while also contributing to the fostering of a more informed and media-literate society.

The active participation of these Bosconians in this significant event is a first, and it is believed that the knowledge and experiences gained will substantially contribute to their personal and academic growth.
